Where in the world are these guys?

We thought that for the next few blogs we'd give you a geography quiz.
It's kind of like the game of "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego", back in the 1990's.

We'll show you a picture and you guess where we are.
Then we'll say something about the place or show more pics.

Here is the first place.

Where in the world are we?

Yes, it's the Washington Monument in the "Mall" in  Washington DC.

One can have a little fun with it.

And (if the Reflecting Pool was full of water), can you imagine Jenny jumping into it and then running towards Forest Gump?

But it is a pretty impressive structure.

It was started in 1848 and finished in 1888 (with no work done between '54 & '77 due to lack of money and the Civil War.
(And that's the reason for the different color stone between the top and bottom; a different stone site was used.)

Here is what Wikipedia has to say:
"the monument, made of marblegranite, andbluestone gneiss,[2] is both the world's tallest stone structure and the world's tallest obelisk, standing 554 feet7 1132 inches (169.045 meters) tall;[n 1] although taller monumental columns exist, they are neither all stone nor true obelisks."

(Not to brag……but, the San Jacinto Monument in Texas is taller. It is made of  reinforced concrete, not granite type stone, so we can't really say its the same but bigger in Texas).

(Tomorrow we'll have another easy geography quiz.
But, watch out for the one after that!
I'll bet no one guesses that one!)
